What Do You Need Before Starting SAT Registration?

Before you start the process, make sure you have your official ID, an active e-mail address, a recent photo on a white background and a valid payment method. Having everything ready will allow you to complete the registration in one go without any interruptions.

What Steps Should I Follow to Register for the SAT?

To register for the SAT, you must complete 7 steps on the College Board website, from creating an account to printing the admission ticket.

  1. Visit the College Board website. The College Board is the organization that administers the SAT. To register, visit www.collegeboard.org and click on the “SAT” tab.
  2. Create an account. If you do not have a College Board account, click “Register Now” register and then “Create Account” create an account and fill in your personal information: name, date of birth and email address. Also create a username and password. Remember that the legal ID you register with is the one you must bring with you on test day.
  3. Choose the date and place of the exam. Once you have created your account, you can start the registration process. Choose the date and location of the exam that suits you best. You will find all available dates and centers on the website.
  4. Upload a photo. You will need to upload a photo of yourself to complete the registration. It must be recent, taken on a white or off-white background, and meet College Board technical requirements (JPG format, minimum 480 x 480 pixels). Follow the instructions carefully to avoid delays.
  5. Pay the registration fee. The fee can be paid online by credit or debit card. If you are unable to assume this cost, you can request a fee waiver directly through College Board.
  6. Check and confirm your registration. Before submitting, carefully review all your data. Once you have confirmed that everything is correct, send your registration.
  7. Print your admission ticket. You will receive your admission ticket approximately one week before the exam. Print it out and bring it with you on the day of the exam – include the date, location and start time.

How Do I Request Special Accommodations on the SAT?

Special accommodations for the SAT are requested directly through the College Board website during the registration process by submitting official documentation of the disability. Available accommodations include extended time and additional breaks.

What Should You Check Before Confirming Your SAT Registration?

Before confirming your SAT registration, you should verify your personal information, make sure that the date you choose is compatible with university admission deadlines, and confirm the exact location of the test center.

These are the key points:

  • Double-check your personal information: Double-check your name, date of birth and address. Any errors could cause problems on the day of the exam or even disqualification.
  • Choose the right test date: Make sure the date is compatible with the application deadlines of the colleges you want to apply to. You don’t want to miss your preferred date by registering late.
  • Confirm the location of the test center: Validate in advance how to get to the test center. Remember that you cannot be late. No entry is allowed once the exam has started.
  • Know the rules and regulations: Familiarize yourself with the procedures, time limits and test instructions to avoid confusion or anxiety on test day.

Students in Germany and the Netherlands should note that not all international SAT dates are available at every European test center — check availability on the College Board website early, as seats fill quickly.

Want a Structured Method to Prepare for the SAT?

Registering is the first step. The next step is to prepare strategically to arrive at the exam with the best possible score. In our SAT preparation course you will find our detailed methodology, materials and study plan – designed specifically for students in  Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, and other countries in Europe.

SAT Registration in Europe

The registration process on College Board’s website is the same for every student worldwide, but there are practical differences that matter depending on where you are in Europe. Test center availability, seat availability at preferred locations, and how your registration timeline interacts with university application deadlines all vary by country. Here is what you need to know, country by country.

How do students in Italy register for the SAT?

Italian students register for the SAT directly on the College Board website following the same seven steps outlined above. Italy has multiple test centers across the country, including in Milan and Rome, with additional locations available beyond those cities — verify the current list and available dates on the College Board website before selecting your preferred center. Seats fill up, particularly at the most convenient locations, so registering as early as possible is strongly recommended. Italian students targeting Bocconi University, LUISS Guido Carli, Politecnico di Milano, or the University of Bologna should work backwards from their university application deadlines to select the right exam date — taking the test too late in the cycle leaves no time for a retake if the score falls short. The photo uploaded during registration must meet College Board’s technical requirements exactly; a photo rejected during registration is a delay you do not need. EPIC Prep has an office in Milan — contact our team if you need help planning your registration timeline around your target admission cycle.

How do students in Spain register for the SAT?

Spanish students register for the SAT on the College Board website following the standard process. Spain has test centers across the country, including in Madrid and Barcelona, with additional locations available beyond those cities — verify the full list and current dates on the College Board website before choosing your center. One practical point specific to Spain: confirm that the ID you register with is the same document you will bring on test day. Students using a NIE, passport, or national DNI should be consistent throughout the entire registration and check-in process, as any discrepancy between the name or ID on your registration and your physical document can cause problems at the test center. Students targeting IE University, ESADE, or SLU-Madrid should confirm their university’s application deadlines before selecting an exam date. EPIC Prep has offices in Madrid and Barcelona and has been supporting Spanish students through the full SAT process since 2010.

How do students in Germany register for the SAT?

German students register for the SAT on the College Board website following the same steps as all international students. Germany has test centers in multiple cities across the country, with Berlin being one of the most active locations — additional centers exist beyond Berlin, so verify the current list on the College Board website. One important practical note for German students: not all international SAT dates are available at every test center in Germany, and seats at the most convenient locations fill up quickly. Check availability early and do not assume your preferred date will still be open if you register close to the deadline. Students targeting programs at Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, WHU, Constructor University Bremen, or other SAT-accepting German universities should confirm their program’s application deadlines before selecting an exam date and register as soon as the date opens.

How do students in the Netherlands register for the SAT?

Dutch students register for the SAT on the College Board website following the standard international process. The Netherlands has test centers available across the country, including in Amsterdam, with additional locations beyond the capital — verify the current list and available dates on the College Board website before selecting your preferred center. As noted in the post above, not all international SAT dates are available at every European test center, and this applies in the Netherlands as well — check availability early, as seats fill quickly. Dutch students targeting programs at the University of Amsterdam, TU Delft, Erasmus University Rotterdam, or VU Amsterdam should confirm each program’s application deadline before selecting an exam date. Faculty-level deadlines can differ significantly within the same university, so verify at the program level, not just the institution level.

How do students in Switzerland register for the SAT?

Swiss students register for the SAT on the College Board website following the same international process. Switzerland has test centers available across the country, including in Zurich, with additional locations beyond the main cities — verify the current list and available dates on the College Board website before registering. Switzerland presents a specific consideration around ID documentation: Swiss students may hold a Swiss passport, a foreign national permit (Aufenthaltsbewilligung), or another official document depending on their background. The ID used during registration must be the exact document presented on test day — confirm which document you will use before completing the registration form. Students targeting ETH Zurich or EPFL should be particularly disciplined about their registration timeline: the caliber required at those institutions means a retake is often necessary, and leaving insufficient time between the first sitting and application deadlines is a common and avoidable mistake. EPIC Prep has an office in Zurich — contact our team to plan your registration and preparation timeline together.
