SAT® Prep Course in Rome

In Rome, students aiming at the most selective universities increasingly turn to the SAT — because a single score reaches far beyond any one institution. In the city itself, LUISS offers direct admission with the SAT and John Cabot University accepts it; the same result also opens Bocconi and the Politecnico di Milano, and universities across the United States, the UK and Europe. For a Roman student weighing their options at home and abroad, that reach is the point: one exam, many doors. EPIC Prep has prepared students for the SAT since 2010, and we work with students in Rome through focused, personalized preparation — starting from a diagnostic of where you are, then shaping the plan, the pace and the target around it, with expert native-speaking tutors and our own practice platform, Boost Your Prep.

The SAT in Rome: why take it

For students in Rome, the SAT is rarely about a single university — it is about keeping every option open with one score. LUISS Guido Carli, in Rome itself, accepts the SAT for direct admission, with a recommended score of around 1250, so the exam is a real entry route to one of the city's most sought-after universities, not just a credential for going abroad. The same score is also accepted by John Cabot University in Rome, by Bocconi and the Politecnico di Milano, and by universities across the United States, the UK and the rest of Europe.

Because the SAT is no longer just "the American exam". For a family in Rome deciding between staying in Italy and studying abroad, that is exactly the appeal: one exam, submitted once, that works for a Roman private university, a US college and a British one alike. Few tests open so many doors at the same time — which is why more students in Rome now build their applications around it.

Why prepare for the SAT in Rome with a specialist academy?

A student in Rome taking the SAT isn't competing against their classmates: they're competing against applicants from all over the world, many of them native English speakers with years of specific preparation behind them. And whichever system a Roman student comes from — the Italian liceo (classico, scientifico or linguistico) or an international programme such as the IB, British A-Levels or an American high-school diploma — that education builds real academic depth but is not designed for the logic, the pacing and the strategy this exam demands. The liceo rewards thorough, structured written answers; the SAT rewards fast, precise pattern recognition under time pressure. That shift in approach, not academic ability, is what decides the score — and it is the first thing a specialist preparation targets.

That is the difference between preparing on your own — or with a generalist teacher, without high-level practice software and without the experience that only years devoted to this exam can give — and doing it with a specialist team that since 2010 has taken thousands of students to their target score: that difference shows up directly in the result.

EPIC Prep works with students in Rome online, with a preparation built around the SAT alone. Every preparation begins by understanding the student: starting level, target score and exam date. From there we design a tailored program with expert tutors, exclusive materials and the EPIC Prep Methodology.

Frequently asked questions about the SAT course in Rome

Below you will find answers to the most common questions families and students have about the SAT exam. These FAQs cover essential topics such as registration, test dates, scoring, superscoring policies, international testing locations, Digital SAT format, and strategic preparation considerations. Whether you are applying to universities in the United States or exploring institutions in Europe and other international destinations, understanding how the SAT works is a key step in planning a successful admissions strategy.

Yes. The most notable is LUISS Guido Carli, in Rome itself, which accepts the SAT for direct admission to its undergraduate programmes. John Cabot University, the American university in Rome’s Trastevere district, also accepts it. Beyond the city, the same test is accepted by Bocconi and the Politecnico di Milano in Milan, and by universities across the United States, the UK and the rest of Europe — which is what makes a single SAT result so useful for a Roman student keeping several options open.

LUISS has become increasingly prestigious in recent years, with a growing reputation both in Italy and internationally, so a competitive application is generally recommended to be around 1250 or above. Students have also told us that very high scores — some mention above 1450 — can open doors to scholarship consideration. Because thresholds and scholarship criteria change each admissions cycle, always confirm the current requirements directly with LUISS.

LUISS offers EU applicants two routes into its undergraduate programmes: sitting the Luiss Test — the university’s own admission exam — or gaining direct admission with a certification such as the SAT. Many students choose the SAT for one simple reason: the Luiss Test is valid for LUISS only, while an SAT score works for LUISS and, at the same time, for John Cabot, Bocconi, universities in the United States, the UK and across Europe. One exam, prepared once, keeps every option open — rather than committing entirely to a single university.

Yes. The SAT is administered in Rome at College Board–authorised test centres, with dates following the international College Board calendar — typically March, May, June, August, September, October, November and December. Test-centre availability in Rome changes from one session to the next, and places fill quickly, so it is best to register as soon as the window opens. You can find the current centres and dates in our SAT Rome guide.

Yes — we work with students in Rome online, and it makes no difference to the quality of the preparation. Our students in Rome get the same expert native-speaking tutors, the same exclusive materials and the same practice platform, Boost Your Prep, that we use across our other locations. Wherever you are in the city, your preparation is built entirely around your starting level, your target score and your exam date.

For most students the recommended period is 10 to 15 weeks, with a plan built around each student’s weak points from the start. If you have a close application deadline, a focused programme of 4 to 5 weeks is possible; students who are already advanced often need only 3 to 4 weeks. A complete preparation involves a minimum of around 90 to 100 hours of combined work — sessions, independent practice and full-length timed tests.

It can. The Reading and Writing section tests academic English — the formal, evidence-based prose found in university-level texts — and students from Italian-medium schools often find the vocabulary register and the complexity of the reading passages more demanding than expected, even when their general English is strong. It is one of the areas targeted preparation focuses on first, through steady exposure to the specific passage types and question logic the SAT uses.
