The SAT in Madrid: why take it
Every year, students in Madrid use the SAT as a key to universities in the United States — where it is the standard admissions exam, both for academic applications and for athletic scholarships with ever more demanding academic requirements — and, increasingly, to top-tier European universities.
Because the SAT is no longer just "the American exam." In Madrid itself, IE University and Saint Louis University – Madrid Campus, the capital's American university, accept it as part of an application — and beyond, so do ESADE, Bocconi, the Stockholm School of Economics and the Politecnico di Milano. For a family in Madrid with a child who wants to study abroad — or in an international program without leaving the city — few tests open as many doors with a single score.
Why prepare for the SAT in Madrid with a specialized academy?
A student in Madrid sitting the SAT isn't competing against their class: they're competing against applicants from all over the world, many of them native English speakers with years of targeted preparation behind them. Whether they come from the Spanish Bachillerato, the IB, an American high school or A-Levels, their education gives them an excellent academic foundation — but none of those systems is designed for the logic, the pacing and the traps specific to this exam. The good news: the SAT score is one of the few parts of an application that can be actively improved, with a clear plan and defined deadlines.
And that is the difference between preparing alone — or with a generalist teacher, without high-level practice software, without proprietary materials and without the experience that only years of preparing this exam can give — and doing it with a specialized team that since 2010 has taken thousands of students to their target score: the difference shows up directly in the score.
EPIC Prep Madrid is an academy specialized in the SAT. Every preparation starts by understanding the student: starting level, target score and exam date. From there, we design a tailored program with expert tutors, exclusive materials and the EPIC Prep Methodology.

Frequently asked questions about the SAT course in Madrid
These are the questions families in Madrid ask us most often before getting started: where the exams are held, what course formats are available, when is the best time to start, and what materials the student will be working with. If your question isn’t listed here, please write to us and we’ll be happy to answer it.
Where is the SAT administered in Madrid?
At College Board-authorized test centers in Madrid. The exact list varies by testing session, and spots fill up quickly, especially in the fall—which is why our guidance includes handling the entire registration process. You can find details on test centers and dates in our SAT guide for Madrid.
What types of SAT courses do you offer in Madrid?
It depends on your starting point and your goal: comprehensive preparation usually takes 10 to 15 weeks. Individual courses start at 5 weeks, blended courses at 4, and small group courses at 8. After the initial assessment, your advisor will develop a customized plan based on your exam date.
When can I start the course?
For the individual and blended formats, you can start right away, without waiting for a specific schedule. Mini-groups begin according to the scheduled calendar. Ideally, you should start 3 to 6 months before your exam date; if your exam date is coming up soon, we offer intensive formats.
What else does the course include besides the classes?
Access to Boost Your Prep, featuring thousands of exercises with instant feedback, realistic practice tests with result analysis, targeted training for the Desmos calculator, updated proprietary materials, and comprehensive guidance for SAT registration.
Who teaches the classes?
Native-speaking tutors trained at universities in the U.S., the U.K., and Canada, dedicated exclusively to preparing students for the SAT. The same team develops our software, our materials, and the EPIC Prep YouTube channel.
Do you work with students from schools in Madrid?
Yes, every year we work with students from schools right across Madrid, whatever their curriculum. We prepare students following the British curriculum and A-Levels (such as Runnymede College or the International School of Madrid), the International Baccalaureate (IB) (such as International College Spain, The Global College or Colegio San Patricio), and schools that offer both routes, like King’s College The British School of Madrid, as well as students from the French Baccalauréat at the Lycée Français de Madrid and from the Spanish Bachillerato (such as Colegio Estudio, Colegio Retamar or Colegio Base). Every student’s starting point is different — the initial assessment is what defines the plan, not the school they come from.
At what age or in what grade do students start preparing for the SAT?
We work with students ages 15 and older. The ideal time to start depends largely on each student’s initial level and their application timeline—some students need time to build a foundation, while others just need to fine-tune their skills. The initial assessment is what allows us to make that decision based on data.
