How Is The IB Diploma Different From Other IB Programmes?

The IB programme is divided into 3 different age groups: 3-12, 11-16, and 16-19. The first two age groups are as follows:  

  • Primary Years Programme (ages 3-12): The PYP sets strong foundations for students by encouraging them to take an active role in their education.

What Is An IB School?

In order to be considered an IB World School, a school must be approved to give IB courses and/or one or more IB programmes. It must meet the requirements of the programme standards and practices (PSP), the foundational set of principles. Once authorized, a school must complete a programme evaluation every 5 years to ensure that PSPs are still met.  

In terms of validity and recognition, the IB has strict programme standards and practices (PSP) in which each IB World School must adhere. A certified school must meet the outlined requirements – both initially and every 5 years – in order to maintain their standing. This ensures that each student in the IB program is receiving the same rigorous education program. One method of standardizing the curriculum includes assessing each subject with a final exam.

Is The IB In English?

Based on demand, the International Baccalaureate (IB) is often taught in English. However, the IB is also offered in French and Spanish, embracing the importance of multilingualism in today’s society. In certain programs, a blend of these languages is employed, reflecting the IB’s commitment to cultural diversity and global awareness.

What Is The Structure Of The Curriculum Of The IB Diploma?

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program is a comprehensive and balanced two-year curriculum designed for students aged 16-19. This curriculum prepares students for success in higher education and beyond, ensuring a well-rounded education by fostering analytical skills, global awareness, and ethical responsibility,  The IB consists of three core components and six subjects:
  • Core Components:
    • Extended Essay (EE): A 4,000-word independent research paper that develops skills in research and academic writing.
    • Theory of Knowledge (TOK): A critical thinking course exploring the nature of knowledge across disciplines.
    • Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS): Encourages students to engage in artistic pursuits, sports, and community service.
  • Subjects*:

IB For College Admission?

Universities around the world are familiar with the IB and recognize the full IB certificate as an entrance qualification. In fact, the program is known for its rigorous curriculum so admissions officers take this into consideration while reviewing applications.

During the application process, universities will often receive predicted grades. This prediction is based on the evaluation of a student’s progression by a teacher. Predicted grades include evaluations of the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay. Once the final exams are completed and all tasks have been graded, the International Baccalaureate sends official transcripts of grades to universities.
