When to Schedule the GRE Test
When scheduling your test, ensure that your scores will be available in time for your deadlines. Score reports are typically issued 8–10 days after the test date. Electronic scores are sent to schools twice a week: so it’s possible that your school may receive a score before the test taker.
How Often Can You Take the GRE?
You can take the GRE test every 21 days, with a maximum of 5 times within a year. If you are planning to take the GRE more than once, make sure you plan enough time between your test dates so you don’t miss your deadlines!
Now that you have an idea of when you’ll need to take the test, it’s time to take the next step and register.

ETS is the organization that administers the GRE. To register for the test, you’ll need to visit their website at www.ets.org. Once you’re on the homepage, click on register.
2. Create an Account
If you have taken or will take TOEFL® , you may already have an ETS account; you can now use your login credentials to access any of the other tests offered by ETS. If not, you’ll need to create a log-in. Click create account and fill out your personal information, including your name, date of birth, and email address. If you are having difficulties entering your address, be sure to avoid commas and special characters. You’ll also need to create a username and password. Remember that the legal ID document that you register with is the one you need to take with you on test day.
3. Choose a Test Date and Location
Now that you have an ETS account, you can start the registration process. Click Register / Find Test Centers and Dates. Select GRE General Test from the dropdown box. Search for centers near your location of choice. Then, find a testing facility with a test date and time that works best for you. Be sure to check out different options as there are often several start times, depending on the center.
