HOW DOES THE DUOLINGO SCORE WORK?
The Duolingo English Test (DET) is a recent test in academic use. It is very common that you may have doubts regarding its scoring since it does not use the traditional evaluation scheme. That is to say, you will not find a report with individualized speaking, listening, reading and writing scores. In this article, we will tell you everything you need to know about the Duolingo scoring.

How to See Your Results?
As soon as your exam is corrected, you will receive an email from Duolingo informing you that you can check your score. You will then need to log into your account and you will have access to your results.
Interpreting Your Results
When you get to your result certificate you will find:
– Total score
Your Duolingo score, i.e. the score you are asked for in most cases, is the total score. It ranges from 10 to 160 points and moves in bands of 5 points. The DET score correlates with the official levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Remember that the total score you get is neither good nor bad, but higher or lower than the score requested by the entity to which you want to apply. Here is a link to the article we have prepared so that you can compare your DET score against the CEFR, TOEFL and IELTS levels.
– Individual results
The DET score report incorporates 4 individual assessments that are scored according to the same scale as the overall score. Individual scores include:
- Literacy assesses the candidate’s ability to read and write in English.
- Comprehension assesses the candidate’s ability to read and write in English.
- Conversation assesses the candidate’s ability to speak and listen in English.
- Production evaluates the candidate’s ability to write and speak in English.
Would You Like to Know How to Prepare for the Duolingo Test in 4 Weeks?
One of Duolingo’s differences in assessing the candidate is precisely the reporting of individual results. Usually, the 4 competencies are evaluated individually while DET mixes them in blocks of 2 because it considers that it gives a more accurate picture of the candidate.
The calculation of your total score and the individual scores is done independently. That is, the total score is not an average of the individual scores. In turn, the individual scores are the result of a weighted calculation of the questions that correspond to each category.
How to Share Your Results?
In order to share your results, you must log into your Duolingo account and go to the “your tests” section located on the home page. Once you are in the “your exams” section, you will be able to share your certified exams by clicking on the “send results” option. Finally, and to conclude, you must indicate to which institution you want to send your results. You can repeat this process as many times as you wish without incurring any additional cost.
In the case of the DET, only the scores sent from your Duolingo account will be valid. The ultimate responsibility for submitting your score lies with you, so we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the process.
How Long Do Your DET Results Last?
As with most English validation exams, your DET results are valid for 2 years from the date of the exam.
