What is the Duolingo English Test?
The Duolingo English Test is an online test generated by a predictive model based on the candidate’s answers. Unlike other level validation exams, the DET is taken consecutively with no breaks in between.

How to prepare for the DET?

Are there Duolingo mock tests?
Once registered on the Duolingo website, you will be taken to a URL where you will find a free Duolingo practice test. The practice test you are given is a 15-minute partial simulation.
Once you have taken it, you are given an unofficial estimated score. If you want to take a Duolingo type practice test call us and ask our DET specialists.
How is the Duolingo test scored?
Duolingo scores range from 10 to 160 points. The scoring works in increments of 5 and includes a total score and 4 partial scores (Literacy, Comprehension, Conversation and Production) scored on the same scale.

What is Duolingo Plus?
Duolingo Plus is essentially an upgrade of the Duolingo application. Its main attributes are the disappearance of ads, the existence of lessons to download offline, unlimited lives, the possibility of skipping units without limits and access to mastery tests. It is an option that is highly valued by the application’s users.
However, it is important to understand what role the app should play if you are preparing to take the exam and have to get a high score.

Which do I choose, Duolingo or TOEFL?
If you are considering studying in the USA, doing a master’s degree at a good university or being accepted into a graduate program, you may have been asked to validate your English level with the Duolingo or TOEFL.
The answer is much more complex than it seems. It goes without saying that at EPIC PREP we prepare students for both exams and, precisely for this reason, we believe that the answer will depend on the candidate. DET provides accessibility (test available 24/7), a lower price, and speed (score available in 48h).
TOEFL, on the other hand, is a standard accepted almost everywhere and has a block structure that facilitates the organization in solving the exam. In essence, the decision depends on what you value, but, please, never assume that DET is easier since the difficulty depends on the score you are asked for. Where can I take the test?
The Duolingo English Test is an exam that can be taken online when and where you want to. There are no Duolingo test centers in Spain. When taking the test, the candidate must complete a first section called Introduction and Onboarding. At this point (duration 5 minutes) you will be asked to:
- Verify that your computer, internet connection, camera, speakers and microphone are in perfect condition
- Show an official identification with a photo
- Listen to the guidelines that will govern the exam
Where is the DET accepted?
The evolution of the acceptance of the Duolingo exam has been changing since 2020. Currently (2023) it is an exam already accepted by more than 3500 universities.

How to register for the Duolingo exam?
The Duolingo registration process is quite simple. You only need to sign up here, either with a Google account or by creating an account with your personal details. Once logged in, you will be taken to a page with 4 options (take a test exam, buy the exam, fill in your personal details and take the exam).
