GMAT (740)

Raul Perez
"I took the intensive GMAT course during this winter. Excellent methodology and above all good teachers. The teachers have been at all times very professional and attentive even at the end of the course until the date of the exam. Before I found EPIC Barcelona I went to another academy and I was quite disappointed with the preparation and the staff. Thanks to EPIC I got a score of 740 on the GMAT (before I got 540). Honestly, the teachers at this academy are a ten and very professional, they have helped me a lot in improving my weak points. Highly recommended."

Provided me with great materials and wide experience during my preparation for both the GMAT and application process for the MBA. It was such a pleasure to have them during the whole process. In the end, I was accepted to each school I applied to, including INSEAD."

How Does the GMAT Strengthen an MBA Application From Madrid?

Madrid is a top-tier destination for students aspiring to MBA and graduate business programs. With world-renowned business schools and a vibrant business community, the city attracts talented professionals from around the world. The GMAT is the preferred admissions exam at many of these institutions, thanks to its focus on the quantitative, verbal and analytical skills needed to succeed in business.

The GMAT at Madrid's Leading Business Schools

Madrid has established itself as a world-class educational hub, drawing students from across the globe to its well-known universities and business schools. The GMAT has emerged as the preferred choice among applicants to MBA and other graduate business programs in Madrid, thanks to its acceptance at prestigious institutions such as IE Business School, where it is a key requirement for the International MBA, the Global MBA and other programs; IESE Business School, where GMAT results are a crucial component of a competitive application; Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, which values the GMAT in the admissions process for MBA programs and other management-related master's degrees; and Universidad Complutense de Madrid Business School, where a strong GMAT score can significantly strengthen your application. With its emphasis on quantitative, verbal, analytical and integrated reasoning skills, the GMAT has become a passport to the best business education opportunities that Madrid has to offer. But the reach of the GMAT extends far beyond the borders of the Spanish capital.

Global Recognition of the GMAT

Beyond Madrid, the GMAT is the standard admissions exam for business programs around the world. A strong GMAT result opens doors not only in Spain but also at the most selective business schools internationally, such as MIT, NYU, INSEAD, London Business School, HEC Paris, Bocconi and many others.

What Makes Specialist GMAT Preparation Different in Madrid?

A candidate in Madrid applying to IE, IESE or an international program isn't only competing against classmates — they're up against professionals from around the world, many with months of GMAT-specific preparation already behind them. A strong academic record or a solid professional track record builds a real foundation, but it doesn't train the GMAT's particular logic, its pacing or its adaptive-format traps. That gap in approach, not ability, is the first thing a specialist course works on.

That's the difference between preparing alone or with a general tutor, and preparing with a team that since 2010 has taken thousands of students to their target score — the difference shows up directly in the result.

EPIC Prep Madrid is an academy that specializes in the GMAT. Every course starts with a diagnostic assessment — your starting level, your target score and your exam date — before we design your plan around expert tutors, exclusive materials and the EPIC Prep Methodology.

Frequently Asked Questions About the GMAT Course in Madrid

This section compiles the answers to the questions we are most frequently asked by candidates in Madrid about the GMAT Focus Edition, in preparation for an MBA or a master’s degree in management or finance — ranging from the role it plays in the admissions process at IE Business School and IESE, to the differences between the GMAT and the GRE, the structure and scoring system of the current exam, the validity of the results, the retake policy, and the choice between taking the exam at an authorized test center or from home.

If your application includes business school programs in Madrid, elsewhere in Europe, the United States, or other international destinations, fully understanding how the GMAT works and the role it plays in each admissions process is key to developing a solid, well-thought-out admissions strategy.

IE Business School and IESE are the two leading institutions in Madrid that use the GMAT as part of their admissions process, where it is evaluated alongside the applicant’s professional background and the admissions interview. Outside the capital, ESADE in Barcelona also takes the GMAT into account as part of its admissions process, although it does not publish an official minimum score.

IE Business School considers a GMAT Focus Edition score of 625, with a recommended range of 605 to 655 to ensure admission—although GMAC reports a higher actual class average, around 680, among students admitted to the MBA program. IE does not publish an official minimum score: it evaluates the GMAT alongside the applicant’s professional profile, essays, and interview, so scoring below the average does not rule out a strong application if the rest of the application is strong.

IESE recommends a score of 650 or higher for its MBA admissions process. It does not publish an official minimum score beyond that recommendation, so an applicant with a score below that threshold may still be competitive if the rest of their application—professional experience, essays, and interview—is strong.

Yes—the GMAT Focus Edition is the same test no matter where you take it, so preparing in Madrid doesn’t limit you to Spanish programs at all. Your score is just as valid at INSEAD, HEC Paris, London Business School, LSE, or Harvard as it is at any local school, and where you prepare has no bearing on how the result is interpreted. Many candidates in Madrid build their application portfolios with IE or IESE in mind, along with one of these international programs—not as mutually exclusive alternatives, but as part of the same application strategy.

Yes—the GMAT and the GRE are prepared for as two completely separate programs, each with its own tutors and materials designed specifically for that exam. If you haven’t yet decided which test is a better fit for your target programs, our GMAT vs. GRE comparison explains the differences in scoring and format, or let us know which programs you’re aiming for, and we’ll guide you toward the right course.

The timeframe is the same in all the cities where we work: 10 to 15 weeks is typical when there’s no urgent deadline, 5 to 7 weeks covers a tighter window, and those who already have a solid foundation can sometimes complete the process in 3 to 5 weeks of focused work. In Madrid, your actual pace is determined during the initial interview, once we have your timeline, your target score, and your available hours on the table.

The GMAT Focus Edition can be taken in Madrid at a Pearson VUE center or online from home using GMAC’s remote proctoring system. In both cases, the first step is to create an account on mba.com and complete your candidate profile. Many students in Madrid prefer the online format because of the flexible scheduling, although both options carry exactly the same weight with the schools.
