IELTS Registration in 8 Simple Steps

1. Visit the IELTS website

IELTS – jointly owned by the British Council, IDP IELTS and Cambridge University Press & Assessment – administers the test trusted by both immigration authorities and academic institutions. To register for IELTS, you will have to visit their website at
IELTS.org.

Once you’re on the home page, click on the “Test Takers” tab to see the drop-down options.

Click “Booking Your Test” and then “Book Now.” Scroll down until you see Find a Testing Center.

2. Fill out the “Find a Test Center” form

UKVI Approved: Before booking your test, be sure to check the requirements as you may need to select this UK Visa and Immigration Service approved option for certain UK visa applications. These options are less common and are often only available in larger cities.

3. Select a place to take the tests

Once you apply the filter, you’ll be able to see if the city of your choice offers the exam options you’re looking for. If you can easily get to another location, it may be worth checking your options.

4. Choose a date

Select the date that best suits you.

5. Create an account

Fill out the online form. You will also need to upload a scanned photo of a valid ID. Make sure that the name you use to register matches the one on your ID. *Please note that examinees under 18 years of age must provide written consent from a parent or guardian.

6. Pay the registration fee

You can pay the fee online using a credit or debit card.

7. Check your registration

Carefully review all information to make sure it is correct. Once you have confirmed that everything – dates, personal information and email – is correct, submit your registration.

8. Check your email inbox

Once all the steps above have been completed, you will receive emails confirming the time and address of your test, the time and address of your speaking test and your IELTS reference number to access the Examiner Portal. You will also receive an email with access to IELTS Ready Premium.
